Reminder from National Office Staff:

  • All scheduled system deadlines, conference calls and/or training are schedule EASTERN STANDARD TIME.
  • Please remind students that are submitting to Novel and Video Game categories to make checks out to the Alliance, not the regional Affiliate offices.

               

Notifications

  • Please review your Affiliate webpages to make sure all information on your websites is up-to-date. 
  • The second most frequently asked question we receive is “when will I know if I’ve won?”
  • Having information up-to-date and making this information as public as possible will cut down will cut down on you receiving these types of questions.

 

Mock Jury Art Panels

We will also be offering those art affiliates who are using the online DAJ system for the first time (or those who just want a refresher) an opportunity to take place in a mock art panel. Scott will act as the panel moderator and you will join him as art jurors. This is a great opportunity to see how a moderator runs the panel, what an art judges’ responsibilities are, and most importantly, how to use the DAJ system to go from a stack of submission forms to a list of Gold Key recipients.

 

Because we had to cancel one of these training, Scott has agreed to do another Mock Jury Panel.

Certificates and Ceremony supplies

We are preparing to send out certificates and supplies.  They will be sent out in three batches prioritized by ceremony date. 

 

Affiliate Fees

Invoices for Affiliate Fees for the 2013 Scholastic Awards Program year have been sent out via email, and postal mail.  The Affiliate fee is $1000.00 due by January 4, 2013.  If payment is late there is a possibility of late fees and/or penalties.  If you have any questions regarding your invoice or payment, please contact me. 

 

New Contracts:

We plan to have new updated contracts sent out in January.  They will outline program expectations, and suggested and mandatory program changes, as well as an outline of the strategic plan.  This contract will also include the request for a 3 year plan of action to become aligned with national program, if you currently are not.

 

I would like to say that we at the National office are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible for all Affiliates.  We are pledging to maintain an open-discussion, collaborative problem-solving and solution oriented process over the course of the next three years.

 

Affiliate Advisory Council (AAC) Meeting

The Affiliate network has been divided into organization type and assigned a specific AAC representative.  Your AAC rep will contact you to share National news, be a voice in the Conference calls and another way to make sure we are providing you with all the support you need.

  • We encourage you to attend at least one of these meetings so that we may have a chance to speak with you and hear your needs.

As we head deeper into Award season, it is helpful to remember to take care of ourselves.  Just a few tips to keep you healthy as we promote amazing student work.

 

Healthy winter tips (courtesy of the CDC):

  • Wash your hands often.

Wash hands with warm water and soap for at least 20 seconds.  Cover mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.

  • Stay warm.

Dress in dry layers of loose-fitting, tightly woven clothing.

  • Manage stress.

Keep a check on over commitment and over spending.  Balance work, home and play.  Remember to take time for yourself to rest and breath.

  • Portion control.

Moving into holiday party season there will be food and goodies in abundance – remember to practice control, or not, isn’t this why we have New Year’s resolutions!
